Inconsistent lighting can damage your eyes

Using electronic devices in dimly lit environments can cause sore eyes and eye fatigue from the differences between ambient light and the light from the display. If people have a very bright display in a dimly lit room, their eyes need to use more energy to focus. Or, when switching from dark to bright scenes on screen, our eyes need to constantly adjust the pupils to accommodate the brightness difference, which can also cause eyestrain, headaches, and blurred vision.

Although this is easily prevented by turning on a lamp to minimize the difference between the ambient light and the screen brightness, shadows and reflections produced by ambient light combined with uneven light from the monitor can also cause eyestrain.

When using the monitor beside a desk lamp, your eyes will need to work harder to avoid the glare caused by the reflection, resulting in eyestrain. To fix this issue of screen brightness, in 2016, BenQ launched Brightness Intelligence Technology.

BenQ Brightness Intelligence Technology

Brightness Intelligence Technology utilizes the Ambient Light Sensor to detect the amount of ambient light in the viewing environment and automatically adjusts display brightness to the most suitable levels. When the sensor detects too much ambient light during the daytime, the algorithm will increase the screen brightness to match the light levels. Alternatively, at night the screen brightness will be decreased.

Brightness Intelligence

The exclusive algorithm in Brightness Intelligence Technology calculates the appropriate screen brightness for ambient light conditions in real-time. When the on-screen brightness matches the brightness of ambient light, your eyes don't have to constantly adapt to the difference between dark and light areas.

Brightness Intelligence Technology also utilizes BenQ Luminance Engine and Color Engine which detect the intensity of the content and adjust the image to ensure that bright scenes don’t get overexposed and dark areas automatically adjust to maintain a visible level of contrast, helping to reduce eyestrain.

Brightness Intelligence Plus (B.I.+Tech)

BenQ Brightness Intelligence Plus (B.I.+Tech) technology goes a step further than the regular B.I. Tech. A built-in ambient light sensor detects the changing light levels and the color temperature in your viewing environment, automatically adjusting on-screen brightness and color temperature to fit your surroundings. It also gradually adjusts brightness based on one's usage time.

Brightness Intelligence Gen2 (B.I. Gen2)

To meet individual preferences, B.I. Gen2 allows manual control of screen brightness when B.I. is on and automatically adjusts screen brightness based on your last adjustment. BenQ B.I. Gen2 emphasizes automatic detection of environmental brightness for automated screen brightness adjustments, while also providing the option to manually fine-tune the brightness.

The primary enhancement of B.I. Gen2 compared to the original B.I. lies in its brightness adjustment capabilities. While the basic idea of automatic ambient light detection and adjustment remains the same, the second-generation technology offers more precise control over brightness. This advancement allows B.I. Gen2 to cater more accurately to individual user needs, providing a more personalized and customizable experience. Whether for varying visual preferences, specific brightness requirements, different eye sensitivities, or fluctuating light conditions, B.I. Gen2 adapts to different user habits and visual sensitivities.

This improvement enhances visual comfort and accommodates various eye conditions and habits. B.I. Gen2’s ability to tailor the display brightness to individual needs ensures that each user can achieve the best viewing experience, whether they are working from home, learning, enjoying entertainment, or performing detailed visual tasks. This improvement not only enhances visual comfort but also allows each user to achieve the best display brightness in diverse environments, leading to a more tailored and effective viewing experience.
